Manny Pacquiao Hits US Top 10

Eight-division boxing world champion and congressman Manny Pacquiao has made it into various lists, from ESPN, Forbes to TIME magazine’s. This time, the Filipino boxer entered the US music charts.

Pacman’s single “Sometimes When We Touch” moved to No. 7 in the secondary adult contemporary rankings last Wednesday.

Last April 28, more than a week before his anticipated bout against American Shane Mosley, Paquiao has released his cover of the Dan Hill hit on iTunes.

The world first heard about Pacquiao’s singing talent when the boxing champion performed the same song on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in late 2009. This paved way for Dan Hill, the writer/singer of the song, to reach out to Pacman.

They became fast friends, agreed to make the record and now it’s climbing the charts even without Pacquiao promoting it on radio stations and other media.

For a champion boxer, it’s definitely an amazing feat.

Brian ‘The Hawaiian Punch’ Viloria set foot in Manila last Wednesday (July 20)

The 30-year-old Filipino pride defeated the Mexican boxer in a title fight that earned him the WBO flyweight world championship title, the third of Viloria’s professional career.
Viloria landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on board flight PR 101 from Honolulu, Hawaii where he won against Julio Cesar Miranda via unanimous decision last Saturday (Honolulu time) at the Blaisdell Center. The fight was telecast last Sunday in Manila via TV5 and Aksyon TV with primetime replay on AKTV on IBC Channel 13.
Last Sunday’s Honolulu boxing event was also a triple victory for the Philippines as two other Filipinos won in the undercard of two non-title bouts. Filipino light flyweight contender Denver Cuello reigned supreme over Puerto Rican Omar Soto; while Pinoy super featherweight Michael Farenas beat Mexican Fernando Beltran, Jr.
‘The Hawaiian Punch’ admitted that his quest for WBO flyweight crown was his toughest fight yet. He will also gamely watch the “Ultimate All-Star Weekend” presented by SMART and MVP Sports Foundation this Saturday. Manny Pacquiao defeats Shane Mosley

LAS VEGAS — Manny Pacquiao, the fighting Filipino congressman, tried to lay down the law Saturday against challenger Shane Mosley, a reluctant warrior in the desert who mostly refused to engage the WBO welterweight champion.

Pacquiao, the world's preeminent pound-for-pound pugilist, knocked down Mosley once but he was unable to stop the former champion while winning an easy unanimous decision. Judges Glenn Trowbridge (119-108), Dave Moretti (120-108 ) and Duane Ford (120-107) all had huge margins for Pacquiao.
Before a pro-Pacquiao sellout crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the goateed ring assassin floored Mosley in the third round by firing a right-left combo that was set up by a subtle feint. Mosley, bleary-eyed on the canvas, rose to his feet but was wobbly as he fended off the champion.
Mosley, when he wasn't cautiously retreating, tried to jab his way in, but rarely used a lead right hand, a prime punch against a southpaw. The earlier knockdown put Mosley on the defensive.
After the fifth round, Mosley's face was puffy and red from Pacquiao's consistent jab. "I just fought the best fighter in the world. He has exceptional power. I've never been hit like that before," Mosley said.
ICON: Manny packs punch for humanity
By the end of the seventh round, the crowd booed, wanting more exchanges between the fighters. Several times, their heads clashed during exchanges, leading to warnings from referee Kenny Bayless.
Pacquiao appeared to get knocked down in the 10th round, but a reply showed Mosley shoved the champion to the canvas.
Earlier in the day, a vehicle Pacquiao was riding in was struck by his camp's security vehicle as the champion was returning from a church service at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, where the fighter is staying. Pacquiao was shaken but unharmed, according to his camp.
Pacquiao was making his first ring appearance in Las Vegas since 2009. Pacquiao's last two fights, in 2010, were held at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. He has said he plans to retire in 2013.
In the meantime, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will continue to try to arrange one of the biggest battles in boxing history: Pacquiao versus the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., the slick boxer whose once-glowing career has been derailed by legal, financial and personal issues.
Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) won his 147-pound title in 2009 when he knocked out four-time world champion Miguel Cotto. His remarkable ring history includes eight world titles in as many weight divisions. He has not lost since Erik Morales defeated him in a 12-round decision in 2005, winning (13) consecutive bouts. Pacquiao turned pro at 106 pounds in 1995.
Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KOs) came into the championship contest with a 15-5 record in world title bouts, including 12 knockouts. He is a four-time world champion in three different weight classes, including two victories against Oscar de la Hoya.
Mosley has not won since 2009 when he stopped Antonio Margarito in nine rounds in Los Angeles to capture one alphabet version of the welterweight crown. He dropped a 12-round decision to Mayweather in Las Vegas last May and his fight against Sergio Mora ended in a disputed draw four months later in Los Angeles.
On the undercard, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (20-1-1) of Puerto Rico lost his junior featherweight title when Jorge Arce (57-6-2) of Mexico stopped him the 12th round. Vasquez's corner threw a water bottle into the ring to halt the action as referee Joe Cortez watched the challenger mercilessly hammer the former champion.
Earlier, former world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (37-2, 32 KOs) of Youngstown, Ohio, scored a majority 12-round decision against Alfonso Lopez (21-1, 16 KOs) from Cut and Shoot, Texas.

Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley welterweight bout in Las Vegas

Preview: We’re just hours away from the Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley welterweight bout in Las Vegas and a lot of boxing fans still believe the world’s number one pound-for-pound fighter and Sarangani representative will successfully defend his crown.

Pacquiao, who has won 13 bouts in a row, is a heavy favorite at the MGM Resorts’ Sports Book. The odds has Manny at -800 and Sugar Shane +500, meaning an $800 bet on the champion from the Philippines will only win $100, while a mere $100 on the American will produce $500.

The Filipino superstar, a world champion in eight weight divisions, has lost only three fights in 57 bouts and only one since he was stopped by knockout 12 years ago. Mosley, on the other hand, has not competed in the ring since his draw with Mexico’s Sergio Mora in September and tonight, he will try to prove that he still has what it takes to become a world champion.

Sugar Shane, who has 39 KOs to his name, even wants to score another knockout. But for the 39-year-old from Pomona, California to pull off the upset, he has to box inside and land tremendous body shots. Mosley tends to get wide with his punches, which will leave him open to Manny’s quick, powerful fists.

Freddie Roach has predicted a knockout for Pacquiao, but the Fighter of the Decade, who will be wearing yellow gloves in his fight with Mosley, said he is not too concerned about becoming the first boxer to knockout the veteran slugger, who has never been stopped in 54 professional fights.

Prediction: I’ll say Manny by unanimous decision. Sugar Shane will have a few great moments, might even stun Pacman a couple of times, but his much-needed victory will not happen tonight. If Pacquiao loses this fight, Filipinos will never hear the end of shenanigans about the yellow gloves bringing him bad luck.

Live Stream: You can go to this site for all the information on how to watch Pacquiao vs Mosley live online.

Can Mosley keep up? Will Pacquiao prevail once more? Have your say below.

UPDATE 1: Manny was just involved in a car accident in Las Vegas… but don’t worry folks, he’s fine and he’s ready for the big fight.

Manny Pacquiao is set to release his international single on April 28

Manny Pacquiao is set to release his international single on April 28, more than a week before his anticipated bout against American Shane Mosley.

His single is the hit ballad by Dan Hill, “Sometimes When We Touch.” He even recorded the song with Hill, the latter being “drawn by the honesty and the gentleness of his performance.” Hill, who popularized the song, rendered his service as a back up vocal for Pacquiao’s cover.

It will be recalled that Pacquiao performed the song last year on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. Now, he is set to return on the said late night program to debut his Dan Hill cover as a single that will be available on iTunes eventually.

Marcos Maidana enhanced his chances of getting another shot at a world title

Marcos Maidana enhanced his chances of getting another shot at a world title on Sunday, defeating an aging Erik Morales via majority decision at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, in their battle for the interim WBA World Light-Welterweight title.

Maidana, who lost to WBA World Light-Welterweight champion Amir Khan in his previous fight, came out firing off the gates, battering Morales with crisp hits to the face that left the five-time world champion’s right eye shut after only two rounds. The 34-year-old Morales, relying on his experience and unquestionable heart, came back in the middle rounds, but still fell short in his bid to return to the top of the boxing world.

In the end, Maidana’s early assault proved enough to snatch the victory, winning 116-112 in two judges’ scorecards. The third judge saw the fight even at 114 to give the 27-year-old Maidana the majority decision victory. After the fight, Maidana acknowledged the difficulty of facing Morales, who had won his first three fights since coming out of retirement last year. “This was my toughest fight yet,” the Argentine fighter said.”The fight was close but I came on strong in the end and feel I won the fight.”

Miguel Cotto continued his climb back to the top of the boxing world on Saturday,

Miguel Cotto continued his climb back to the top of the boxing world on Saturday, forcing Ricardo Mayorga to quit in the 12th round of their WBA World Super Light-Middleweight title match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was the second-straight win for Cotto after he suffered a heavy beating at the hands of Filipino superstar and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in November 2009. Cotto was leading in all scorecards in his first defense of the title when Mayorga decided to quit. Mayorga dropped to the canvass earlier in the final round after he got caught by a vicious left. The 37-year-old Nicaraguan was able to beat the count but later signaled to referee Robert Byrd that he had enough. Mayorga later revealed that he quit because he injured his hand and not due to the knockdown. “I tried to finish the final round but the pain in my hand was too much,” Mayorga said.

Cotto admitted that he felt the heavy hands of Mayorga, who has now lost five of his last nine fights, but he chose to stay calm rather than engage his Nicaraguan opponent in a toe-to-toe battle. “He was very heavy handed, I felt his punches the whole fight,” Cotto said. “The game plan was not to get caught up in any of his antics,” said the defending champion referring to Mayorga’s challenge to turn the fight into a brawl.

Filipino boxer Rey Saludar won the country’s 3rd gold medal

Filipino boxer Rey Saludar won the country’s 3rd gold medal in the ongoing 16th Asian games in Guangzhou, China.

Saludar bested Chinese boxer Yong Chang with a nerve-wracking 13-11 win in the Men’s 52 kg. gold medal bout at the Foshan Gymnasium.
The hometown boy ruled round 1 but our very own Saludar battled back with a flurry of punches in the 2nd Round, scoring 9 points against the Chinese’s 3.
Saludar played it safe in round 3 but Chang was able to outscore him, 3-6. Fortunately, it was not enough.
Aside from bringing honor to the country, Saludar will also receive an incentive from the government and Rep. Manny Pacquiao.
The Philippines now have a total of 3 golds, 3 silvers and 9 bronzes. It’s 1 gold and 3 silvers away to improve its 18th place finish in Doha, Qatar Asiad, where it won 4 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Bowler Engelberto “Biboy” Rivera captured the Philippines’ first gold medal in the 16th Asian Games.

Biboy had a total 1414 pinfalls to win the gold medal in the Men’s Singles event.
Another pinoy, Frederick Ong who scored 1390 pinfalls, captured the bronze in the same event. A bowler from Kuwait won the silver.
This sums our medal count to 4 including the two bronze medals won by Ronnie Steeve Vergara and Charlea Lagaras in cha cha cha and paso double events of dancesports Sunday afternoon.
The Philippines’ 1 gold and 3 bronze medals currently placed us at no. 11 among 22 countries which at least won a medal. We are one notch behind Malaysia (the best performing Southeast Asian country so far), which is currenty at no. 10 with 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
China, as expected, is still in the lead of the leaderboard with 71 gold medals followed by South Korea with 22, and Japan with 15.
The Philippine team hopes to improve the 4-6-9 gold-silver-bronze haul of 2006 in Doha, Qatar.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool Live Stream:

Chelsea vs. Liverpool Live Stream: The battle between Liverpool and Chelsea is perhaps the biggest game in football this weekend, and even though the Reds are still struggling to find consistent form and only moved out of the relegation zone a week ago, this match promises a spine-tingling atmosphere at Anfield.

Roy Hodgson’s men are currently 16th on the Premier League table and will face a tough test in Chelsea, who have won 12 of 14 matches in all competitions, losing just one at Manchester City in September. However, Liverpool fans believe Steven Gerrard can deliver another great performance like the one he accomplished on Thursday night. The 30-year-old skipper entered as a substitute and scored a hat trick to lead the Reds over Napoli 3-1 in the Europa League.

A victory for Liverpool this afternoon would be proof of something that many pundits seem to have forgotten – the big four are still “the big four”.

The match kicks-off at 16:00 UK. You can watch Chelsea vs. Liverpool live online (free live stream) HERE. You can also go to THIS LINK.

Manchester United vs. Wolves Live Stream

Manchester United vs. Wolves Live Stream: Manchester United go into tonight’s Premier League encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers sitting five points behind leaders Chelsea in the table.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has no fresh injury problems going into his team’s visit to Old Trafford, but for United, Nani and Darron Gibson will surely miss the game. Nani suffered a groin strain in the Red Devil’s Champions League win over Turkish club Bursaspor while Gibson has been hit by a virus.

Again there is no Wayne Rooney, as the 25-year-old striker is on his way to the United States for a week-long conditioning program at the Nike Campus following an ankle injury. However, the Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 15 EPL games and, off the back of an amazing result in Europe, expect Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to win against the Molineux club.

The match kicks-off at 15:00 UK. You can watch Manchester United vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers live online (free live stream) HERE.

The Tennessee Titans has Randy Moss

Randy-MossRandy Moss has quickly found a new home after his rendezvous with theMinnesota Vikings ended abruptly this week.
The Tennessee Titans snagged the 33-year-old wide receiver on Wednesday, just a day after he was officially waived by the Vikings. Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said the team believes Moss can contribute to the cause of the Titans, who are currently 5-3. “We think that he can help us, and I’m looking forward to seeing him run under those deep balls,” Fisher said.
Moss was cut by the Vikings after the seven-time Pro Bowl selection publicly criticized his Vikings teammates and coach Brad Childress following Minnesota’s loss to the wide receiver’s former team, the New England Patriots, on October 31. Moss had two touchdowns and 13 receptions for the Vikings in four games.
“Randy’s excited to get back playing football,” said Moss’ agent, Joel Segal, adding that “he’s ready to go and looking forward to” playing for the Titan
